#43 Filming delays

Image
When trying to get my clips for my film I ran into some delays. Most of these delays were when I needed to get extra clips because I was down seconds. These delays were from things such as availability to film. My main priority was to be able to get my clips, no matter if it was at my local recreation center or if it was at Ezra’s baseball game. Ezra was not available since he was with his mom, this held back me being able to film since I wanted more clips of them interacting. Also having a ride to these shoots was really important. I needed time to edit my film, so trying to get these recordings as fast as I could was really important to me. Also since I wanted more memories of “young Matthew” I also needed Jordan. Jordan and Ezra were both available and unavailable on the same days. This made it a bit easier knowing they had the same schedule to where I can be able to have both of them at the same time to film. Sean wasn’t a problem since he is injured he is always available. Th...

#42 Editing

Image
For editing I wanted the film to look very heartfelt, nothing harsh. As I got my scenes into order I decided to have each scene fade into each other. As the scenes fade into each other and play, I decided to have music play over the scenes. You can still hear the original sounds from the clips but just an added audio that helps set the mood. I added audio that iMovie offered on their app called "Memories of the past".  For the memories in general I raised the music so you could see how impactful these memories really are to the film. I lowered the audio on the clips such as Matthew and Tristan talking and the few opening clips so you could hear the noises of the atmosphere which sets the scene. I placed the clips in an order of which you could see the interaction which leads up to the memories.  You see that the clips go from them talking and Matthew teaching Tristan. Then Matthew telling Tristan how he will do well, to Matthew watching Tristan play. As Tristan plays Mat...

#41 Filming part 3

Image
After 2 separate days of filming I was still short about 30 seconds. This meant that I still had to get more clips. Ezra had another game, meaning I could get more clips, that included Sean watching his game, them interacting, and Ezra playing in game. These clips added to the themes my film represents. I got extra clips just incase I would be too short, since that happened the last 2 times I filmed.  The clips of Matthew watching Tristan play helps with how athletes can give back to their community and family relationships. Matthew and Tristan have a clip where Matthew is teaching Tristan about baseball this also contributes to the theme of athletes giving back to their community and family relationships. The clips have added more meaning to the film and also give more context to the films message. The clip of Tristan in his baseball game while Matthew watches also leads to Matthews memories about his baseball days. All these clips end up adding to why Matthew gets into his ...

#40 Filming part 2

Image
Since I did not get enough clips the first time of filming I had to find a way to get more. Sean, Jordan, and Ezra all came with me to our local recreation center to film a few more scenes. This time I decided to get more clips of Matthew and Tristan interacting. This choice allows for the audience to see the family relationships that are in the film. I get clips of Matthew, Tristan, and young Matthew all watching the game. Matthew watching Tristan comes into where young Matthew is watching his baseball game.  You get to see Tristan focusing on the game, as Matthew used to do when he was younger. The interaction of Matthew and Tristan is really important for the relationships that the film is representing. These newly added clips allow for the audience to get more detail on what is going on. The flipping back and forth between Matthew and his younger self allows for the audience to understand that Matthew sees himself in Tristan. The interaction of Matthew and Tristan has sho...

#39 Filming part 1

Image
After planning out what I wanted my scenes to look like, I got to filming. I went to Jordan and Ezras baseball game. This allowed me to get my clips of Ezra playing baseball and Jordan playing baseball for the memories. I got to film around the baseball fields so I could get the clips of establishing the scene. I got clips such as the opening clip walking up to the fields, Matthew (Sean) walking, Matthew and Tristan talking at the end. The scene of Matthew and Tristan talking is important for establishing how Matthew was in his memories as watching Tristan. Tristan playing baseball is good for showing the lead up of where Matthew starts to reminisce on his baseball days. The clips of Jordan allowed for me to make the memories. The memories are the key part to this film because it shows how Matthew thinks about his baseball career and helps with the progression of the film.

#38 Planning my CCR's

Image
Since I have to do 4 different CCR's they all have to be done in a creative way. These CCR's will be about 3 minutes each. Each CCR is answering a separate question.  1. "How do your products use or challenge conventions and how do they represent social groups or issues?"  2. "How do your products engage with the audiences and how would they be distributed as a real media text?" 3. "How did your production skills develop throughout this project?" 4. "How did you integrate technologies - hardware, software, and online - in this project?" 1. For this CCR I plan to make it like a talk show where the question is asked and I go into detail about my answer. The host will ask the big question that everyone has been wondering. As I go on about the question clips from the film will play to show exactly what I am talking about. 2. This CCR I plan to make it screencast where I have a power point with my questions, on the screen you will be seeing w...

#37 Making the memories

Image
For my film I want to have the memories play like an overlay, while still being able to see the film/ Lincoln and the field. For this I will need to gather clips of Lincoln looking at the field and Tristan and his teammates playing baseball. I will also need to gather clips of young Lincoln playing baseball.  Once I have gathered those clips I will go into my editing app and add my clips of Lincoln watching Tristan's team and then the clips of Tristan's team playing baseball. As I have the clip of Lincoln watching the game an overlay of young Lincoln's baseball moments will play over it. This picture shows how the memories are going to fade in. The memories will fade in and out back and forth showing Lincoln watching the game while having these memories. Allowing you to see what Lincoln is thinking about while also showing what he is doing.

#36 Incorporating Sounds

Image
As I edit I want to enhance sounds and add sounds. In a few times of the film I want you to be able to hear clearer what the characters are doing. Also adding in sounds that will help you vision and hear what the character "can hear".   There will be very faint music playing in the background, but once he starts seeing the memories the music starts getting a bit louder. As these memories start to keep playing and playing in his head the cheers of the crowd will play from his young years. There will be added voice overs from the son trying to talk to his dad while he is so intensely focused on what he is looking at/ the team he's coaching. The music will cut out when the dad realizes that his son is speaking to him. These incorporated sounds will help you feel involved in the film and feeling the atmosphere. These incorporated sounds will help you feel the characters emotion by building it up as the music is played. I will use crowds from sound effects. This added sound ...

#35 Titling

Image
In your film you want a good title sequence. This could be in the middle of the start or the end of the start to your film. I personally want to have mine at the start of my film. My film will be called Missing the Fields. This will relate to Lincoln missing playing baseball. The titling will be in front of the field displaying the title. You will be able to see where the film is based and see the title.  I will have my title fade as the opening scene is going. Putting this title here while having the opening allows for establishing the scene, the title goes with the scene so you can see what the idea of the movie may be. The title goes with the background, you see the title being "Missing the Fields" and the background is a baseball recreation complex, letting you know it's going to be about baseball.

#34 Character roles and costume

Image
In your film, you want your characters to look a certain way, it can show the personality of your character, it can bring a mood to the film. Clothing is also related to the film, since it has to match the theme and time.  For my film since it is based more to current day and related to baseball. The only character that's clothing really stands out to the audience is the main man Lincoln Matthews. His clothing will show modern day clothing, baseball related. The Kids will be in baseball uniforms. The costume of the character will enhance the films realism.  The clothes that Lincoln uses will be his own, since it is a modern day film it helps with that realism. The son Tristan Matthews will be in baseball uniforms and young Lincoln will also be in baseball uniform. The film is based while Lincoln is coaching, he will be in some sort of baseball outfit, and for Brayden and Tristan, their characters are playing baseball so that's what they will be wearing.

#33 Switching the filming location

Image
Since adjusting the plot, the location will be placed at a baseball field. The field is where the boys play and Lincoln coaches.  This location will where the whole thing is placed. After switching my entire plot due to bad scheduling and changing the plot, I had to change the location also. The plot is now based off baseball, where Sean is coaching a game and the memories being about young moments playing baseball. Since Sean is always here, I don't have to worry about not having time to film here. Since I will be filming here at night since that is where all the practices and games are held. This field provides lighting even during the night. The fields are always open to the public, which allows me to film whenever I need to.

#32 Adding and switching characters/cast

Image
Since I’ve had to adjust the plot, that also comes with different cast. The main role Lincoln Matthews is still played by Sean MacLean. For the youngest son that Lincoln will be coaching/watching will be played by Sean’s youngest son Ezra MacLean. He is a little bit but impactful role, but not made to be in front of the camera that much. Ezra’s characters name will be Tristan Matthews. For Young Lincoln that will be in Lincoln’s flashbacks will be played by Jordan MacLean. He is Sean’s oldest son, he will be in the flashbacks, so a combination of pre recorded and new videos will be used. Jordan's characters name will be young Lincoln Matthews. Those 2 characters will be replacing Brianna and Gina. Since Ezra will be a replacement of Brianna and Jordan will be the replacement of Shana. Since the adjusting of the plot it has caused me to replace/cut off the 2 actors.

#31 Adjusting the plot

Image
As time has gone on filming schedules have been a big part of the film. Sean is a coach for one of his sons baseball team. This takes up all his time since he is at the fields. This has caused me to have to adjust the plot. Still using the fact that Sean is doing something that is bringing back memories and his injury is involved.  Sean is a coach for his youngest sons team. His older son plays for another baseball team in the same place, which will help with the flashbacks. Sean will be coaching his youngest son Ezzy, as he watches his son play baseball he gets flashbacks of when he was playing baseball before his injury. His injury is what caused the end of his career and when he watches his son play he gets flashbacks. He wants to work on his injury so he can get back into the sport. This has caused me to cut the characters Gina and the daughter. The scheduling issues are too complex, as Shana is always working, and Brianna is always focused with sports and school. Since S...

#30 Budget

Image
When going for my budget I'm not trying to have an expensive budget. Having a planned budget allows me to work around what the actors already own. When it comes to props it allows me to use items the actors have. Sean will provide the main props such as crutches, since he does already have an injury where he uses the crutches. Since the location will be at a park, it will be free to get in. Clothing is no money spent, since my characters will be wearing baseball clothes, it allows them to wear their own clothes not spending money. This is easy to do since we are filming as modern day allowing them to just wear their own baseball outfits.  When at my filming location since it is at a park it allows me to not spend any money on a production place.

#29 Errors

Image
As filming is about to start I have ran into some errors with my actors. My main actor Sean who plays Lincoln Matthews has an injury and he has to use crutches. And my side character actor Brianna is not feeling too well. I feel as if I could add more too the story, by using his injury as part of the story. Brianna says she feels okay, so it should not affect filming.  Being able to add to the story based off small errors, makes film directing more creative. Since Lincoln will have a injury it will add to the stories plot. The injury is from a car crash which left Gina to tragically pass, but the phone he discovers having all the photos and videos of them. This discovery of the phone makes him want to look at the memories they had, but only to discover that these "memories" might be deeper than he thought, since there was barley any captured moments between them.

#28 Filming location

Image
When it comes to your film you want to have your primary filming location. My films location will be in a home, primarily being in the kitchen since that is where Lincoln finds the phone. The filming location also impacts the story. The location being in a home, helps with the more romantic genre and helps with realism. The location helps with emotional depth. The filming location also establishes the mood and atmosphere, which enhances realism. The home also will allow for a place of memories for Lincoln. The filming location also being the house helps with the nostalgia that Lincoln will feel due to memories.

#27 Getting a side character

Image
In my film I want to have another character, one that doesn't really mean anything to the film itself. The side character will be Lincolns child. Before Lincoln goes in the drawer, he will have a small interaction with his child. The child will ask their dad if they can look for something, leading to his finding of the phone. The character at the end will say "dad, dad, did you find it?". This interaction also helps with Lincolns overall point of having an obsession.  The person that will play the child is the daughter ofBrianna, she is good for the role she is comfortable to play the role with Sean and Shana. She doesn't have many lines, so she isn't worried about having to do too much. Her comfortability with the other actors allows her to ease with her acting.

#26 Aspects of Lincoln's character

Image
Aspects of Lincolns character are: Lincoln has good morals, he prays to find love the old way, he hasn't really looked for love ever since him and his ex Gina split. Based off of the costume for Lincoln it gives you a representation of who he is more likely to be. Lincoln will be presented as a calm, normal guy. Lincoln's traits will also be paired with his clothing, helping his overall mood that he gives off. Lincoln's attitude also will help with the film. Lincoln won't be mad, he will be confused, fascinated for answers. His attitude helps with him overall being a calm guy, even when he is obsessed with why Gina hid.

#25 Credits

Image
In your film you should state your credits. Your credits contain the production, cast, and director. The  Credits will be rolling at the bottom as the film starts. My production name will be BM productions, since it has both my first and last name initials. My cast includes: Lincoln Matthews - Sean Maclean Gina Johansson - Shana Bishop Side character - Brianna Bishop This is an example of what the credits would look like shown up. Being able to see the film but also the credits is why I placed it where I did. The credits allow you to know who is in the film and who produced the film and directing it.

#24 finalizing scenes

Image
As my filming is coming up I need to finalize what scenes I want in my film. I want my film to be based in a house, and Lincoln discovering the phone. Lincoln looks through the phone where he sees photos of him and his ex lover. The deeper he looks in the photos and videos he realizes the hiding of Gina. Like my previous storyboard, Lincoln will discover the phone, leading to the finding of the old memories. The 1st drawing demonstrates Lincoln walking up to the counter to look through the drawers. The 2nd photo shows him opening the drawer, where he finds the phone. The 3rd photo is a close up shot where Lincoln will be seen opening the phone. This storyboard allows me to plan out my scenes and build off them.

#23 Sterotypes

Image
When watching films there is always a stereotype that is either followed or challenged. In romance films, a common stereotype is that two ex-lovers will get back together or miss each other. A lot of romance films often show toxic relationships, love at first sight, and the two you'd never thought would fall in love. My film will follow but also challenge stereotypes. Missing what you used to have is a stereotype that will be followed but also beaten. Lincoln will miss what him and Gina had, until he digs deeper into these videos and images. A stereotype it will beat is getting back together, and working to get that back. Lincoln will go crazy about the truth about Gina's hiding, but not trying to get back together.

#22 Props

Image
Props are an important part of a film. Props can help symbolize messages. A prop can also be the main use in a film. For example in Stranger things Steve was known for his bat with nails, since he used it to fight a Demogorgon. In my film I want my main prop to be a phone, the phone will be what the man discovers to find all the photos and videos. The phone will have the videos and photos that bring lincoln back to these memories. The phone is the most important part, since it has to do with the main plot.
