#14 Decoding
Decoding is when the audience has to decode the message-interpret what is being communicated. There are 3 types of decoding positions, those three are dominant, negotiated, and oppositional. Dominant is when the audience accepts and understands the intended meaning. Negotiated is when the audience uses their own beliefs to adapt to the intended reading. Oppositional is when the audience rejects the intended meaning. Decoding allows for the audience to understand, negotiate or reject the intended meaning of the filmmakers.
Since my film will be about the character realizing one of them is always behind the character the audience will be able to decode that into one not liking to be in front of a camera. if the audience sees that one of the characters aren't in much of the videos only behind the camera, they can decode that the relationship might be happy, just not right. Though people might view the situation in different ways, either could be correct. Trying to leave some gaps like not showing the breakup, letting the audience get to infer why the one may have avoided the camera. Having the happy audio of the video playing over those "uncomfortable" videos contrast, leading to the audience to decode the message.
